[the never you meant to keep]

you waded into me like aflame.
floating atop paper.

you flickered and danced as your sparks tickled the air above you

you sank into the river. as if there was nothing about you.

faces come out of the rain
wicket as the wind that whipped them
wet as

long sound footsteps slippery on the scuff of downturned sidewalks

strangling out non-instants from potential moments that never lived up to their's

estranging.
distance
from us

wet as wrought iron bridges

aching.
like a saxophone

.the
pitter-patter of pins falling onto soft skin of the city

i love it all.

moody as hell.

stepping into the shower

each morning i awake first, i wonder if my reality is not illusion
i wait to receive signal that others have awoken, this morning, into the same world as i

have i been
torn from the meniscus of life,

exposed to a new form of stillness?

i loosen my listening ear

to see if i can perceive a sensory input
to compliment the

sounds of the wind

and the innocent creaks of the floorboards below me.

breath

in time my dear,
the soft,whining sound of

hours
slipping

past your open palms
and
through your moist fingers

will cease to amaze.
or even feel the need to take in a breath for your presence-

.you look like rain and slow burning cigarettes

blank check. ink wash. arson-ette.

shutting the door on another night of angels
and other fiery things
meant to complicate- (the darkness.)
