Night Song

The sun is sinking,       hear its silent song,
All alone in the dark,   do you sing along?

The snake slithers near,   but can you hear?
Hear his whispers…            …listen softly my dear,

Wondering in wonder,     lost in the night,
And the pale stars shining,    swimming in the cool soft light,

Eyes are closing, turn the lights down low,
The air is still, the night is long, and hearts are beating slow,

A touch so warm,         move close,        come near,
Hear the black night crying,    there’s nothing left to fear

Can you feel it,           as the song slips away,
Do you hear it calling,   can you hear it from where you lay?

Embrace the silence,  “Scream!” the moon sighs,
Stay with me now,        and never say goodbye,

Drums beat in the distance, in time with whispered sins,
Blood-red curtains sway,  waltzing in the breathless wind,

Singer softly spoken,       …so very nice and slow,
Echoes from another room,       beyond the subtle glow

Shadows of silk,    cast across candlelit walls,
Shadows caught in endless embrace,      dancing as they fall,

So    Beware,    Take care,      as you stare,   into the shifting city lights,
Or you just might find,
Nothing’s as it seems, as if you’ve slipped into a dream,
And fallen under the spell of the night,

                             Deeply
                               Into
                          The Night

The moon is rising,       hear its silent song,
All alone in the dark,   do you sing along?
