start of a book? [ In medias res ]

Ch. 1

Her hair rested playfully on her bare shoulders, the auburn waves dancing weightlessly in the gentle wind that sang to them, enticing them to move this way and that, keeping some slow and steady beat. And it must have been a silent ballad, some perfect love song that the wind whispered to her in its breathy sighs, for her hair swayed so elegantly, so prettily, so nice. It was rather lovely, always dancing, moving slowly, never bluntly. She was beautiful, very beautiful, especially her eyes. They were green, speckled with little dewdrops of gold that ran around the edges of her river-stone irises. There was a smooth compassion that seemed to run through them, seemed to flow into them, trickling soft like a small-scale waterfall.
Her eyes were the first thing that he noticed when he saw her there. It was hard not to. She certainly was beautiful. Her pale skin shone so warm in the dying glow of a quiet sunset. To think, that at the very same time, the heat of her body began to fade slowly, just as the ambient warmth of the earth dropped steadily, following the bitter-sweet visions played out in the sinking of the sun.
She was beautiful, even in death.  So much so, it was hard to imagine that she truly was. Her eyes still seemed so alive, so full of natural energy save for their cold, surreal stillness. But they too would soon fade. It was only a matter of time. Perhaps in a few hours they would cloud and become murky, seem glazed over, hazy, filled with glassy smoke.
He thought it peculiar that she seemed so peaceful. She truly was beautiful. If only she knew how much.
